Welcome to TBN, Ray. As far as your petcock, I don't know Branson. An owners' manual should answer your question. I do know that most water valves are turned so they align with flow to turn on or go across the direction of flow to turn off. My old Mitsubishi tractor was the opposite. The handle was turned across the flow to turn it on and in line with the flow to turn it off. You can try cracking a line after the valve to see how it works.

You can see that I don't have your tractor. Valves of which I am familiar, are either threaded or quarter turn devices. Threaded you turn CCW to let fuel flow and obviously the reverse to close. The quarter turn usually have the lever parallel to the fuel line for flow and perpendicular for closed.

Ray, How old is that tractor? I have a Century 2535 which is the same thing as the Branson 3510. I had a problem where the pawls on the valve control lever did not engage fully with the nylon valve assembly. When I turned the valve off it would bot turn back on and I had to remove the valve control lever and turn the actual valve itself with a pair of needle nose pliers. Mine stays in the on position all the time now. If I need to change the filter I just put a cup under the filter bowl to catch any fuel that leaks out. W. Jones
