Fuel Tank with "crud" in it

I agree with the previous 3 post!
Get that mess out of your tank asap!
Probably algae from water trapped in the tank. Your cap is most likely vented, so removal of the bottom port will allow a rush of diesel out, siphon out all you can. A siphon can be found at most parts stores
Biocide and diesel treatment for water are both good ideals in my opinion, but probably not in same tank if fuel. You want to keep water out of diesel period!
A full tank prevents condensation as much as possible. Most additives will help remove moisture as well.
Off road diesel should have a reddish color from its dye and full taxed diesel should be slightly yellow or tan. That greenish is not normal!

Street legal diesel is often blueish green but not cloudy...

You can purchase a long 'mechanical grabber' thingy from a hardware/auto-parts shop and attach/grab a 'Chux' (J-cloth?) to the end. Use that to absorb/wipe up the gunk.

I'd still drain the tank, wipe out the tank again & add a diesel biocide to a fresh tank of fuel.

Check your fuel bowl... a good indication of crud/water in your fuel & tank.

Siphon as much as you can out of the tank. Whatever is left, you don't want. Water will be on the bottom. Use a wet-vac to get the rest.

Watch when vacuuming around the valve in the bottom. There might be a replaceable screen on the valve that could be dislodged or broken. After you've siphoned most all of the diesel, it would be better to pull the shutoff valve out and clean it separately. Also be gentle around the fuel level sender arm and float.
NEVER use a wet-vac on Diesel or gasoline!. it can explode when vaporized!.. it WILL be vaporized in the wet-vac, then the vapors will go through the sparking motor(from the brushes)..

Back in my sailing days where tanks were integral with the hull often had junk in the tank.

I used a 12v fuel pump connected to a fuel hose with a length of copper tubing on the end.

Moving the "Wand" around I always got a lot of junk out.

Im getting someone to haul my tractor to a local, well respected old school mechanic. He is going to take the tank off and clean it along with the fuel pump and whatever else. Since I Just purchased the tractor I want to make sure it is right, so I am biting the bullet. He is going to trouble shoot my temp gauge issue as well. I was hoping to spend my first few weeks of my first tractor purchase enjoying it planting food plots, but that all can wait.

Good plan - start Things Off Right .

Don't know your background with machinery, this may be old news...... my goal with anything I pick up used - changeout ALL fluids and filters ASAP.

Enjoy !
