fuel starved?

The latest issue I'm having is fuel starvation. The filter is brand new, the tank is well vented, no air leaks apparent. The tractor runs beautifully for a few minutes, then dies out. I'm not sure what it could be...something stuck in the line to the bowl? I'm gonna look at it in the morning. Any suggestions?

Oh....I have a new air filter. I'll try that.

There have been people who had trouble with air leaks around the bowl itself causing those symptoms, as I recall.

I would start at the bleeder at the pump and see how much fuel comes out. If it only flows a little, work back to the next bleeder upstream and find the blockage.

While you are at it. Replace the line from the tank to the bowl. I had no problems,but replaced all of my fuel lines

It is possible; the prior owner did not have a screen in the fuel tank. Hmmmmm.

Screen dont really mean anything. I have one but take it out to fuelup, as it restricts the flow and causes little splashes from it. Im using a clean tank to pour from and its filtered at the pump anyhow so i dont worry much as there is a filter there in the system.

Curious, does the strainer need to be there to help vent the tank? Isnt there a little notch in it which is where the vent is drawn through. I know at least one person on here said they had a vaccume and it was cause by screwing the fuel cap to hard and squeezing the rubber gasket into this vented channel thus making it a ventless tank. I alway just snug it up and maybe a tiny bit more to keep it from loosening.

Interesting you say that; the tank had no screen when I bought the tractor, and the tank got all scrunched w/vacuum!! It was explained to me that the screen also vented the tank.

I still haven't messed with the tractor, when I do, I'll watch the bowl for running dry. If it does, I'll know that the problem is in the hose or tank.

I checked the hoses from tank to injector pump etc., and fired her up. Noticed air bubbles in the bowl. Shut her down. Tightened the bowl on good. Fired her up again. Runs fine. I still have to give her a good work out bush hogging or finish mowing to see if the problem is gone. But I think I didn't tighten the bowl down when I changed the filter. Operator error.:laughing::laughing::laughing:

Well that explains why my tank isn't vented thanks guys!

I dont have a strainer so I have been having to leave the cap just barely loose so it will breathe. I will have to keep that in mind next time I order from Hoye.

That is just exactly what I thought when I read what you guys said about the strainer dang it and all along I have had to barely tighten the cap to keep the tank from sucking inside out geez they probably didn't even know it needed one! :laughing:

edit: Heck now I think about it even my buddy's new 1610D VN even has one I thought that was just another cool thing about 1610s they have every other bell and whistle known to man it seems like hahaha!

and dont tighten the cap too much either as i noticed mine has split the top off it
