Tractor is a 63 4000 gasser. I visit "Ol Blue" once every week or two. Last few times I tried to start her it would turn over but not start and gas would spray/seep out somewhere around the manifold area. It will eventually start and run kind of rough for a bit and then seems to run fine after that. There's no visible gas leak before starting and oil doesn't seem to have gas in it. On a possible related note(or not) after about 45 minutes it starts running rough, especially under load. Haven't tried troubleshooting that issue yet. On that subject(troubleshooting) I know there's been a lot of good info on here, much of it in bits and pieces. Does anyone know of a link to a good comprehensive step by step process for troubleshooting spark and fuel issues? Thanks for any help, Mark.

Well, it's really hard to tell, but I was assuming intake, could be wrong though. Maybe you could address both scenarios.:)

Wet stacking from the exhaust side would be a mixture of water from combustion, partly burned fuel and lube oil that has slobbered past the rings or past the valve guides.
Does the temperature gauge reach 195F ?
When was the last time Old Blue was taken out and work hard at full throttle and at full power continuously for 2+ hours ?

This "wet stacking" only occurs at initial start up after being down for 1-2 wks as far as I know. Temp seems to get pretty high, usually pretty close to red on the gauge. Course who knows if the gauge is right. I've had it out brushhogging and/or disking a couple times in the last month or so. Usually at around 1500(+/-) rpms. As stated in my op it starts running rough after 45-60minutes or so and I usually just stop at that point.

Could this be a float issue?

There is no fuel pump(gravity fed). What's the best way to check the coil?
