Tractor
bx2200
Hello,

I just bought a 2001 bx2200 (my first machine), and had the thrill of finally getting a tractor to help with my long driveway beat down with a fuel leak. The machine is very clean, with 475 hours on it, and not a drop of oil or diesel leaking from anywhere, so you can imagine my supprise. Proud new owner thought he would just fill tank since it was only just below half a tank.
I looked up past threads and found that it is common, mine leaks in the area where rops mounts to fender on left rear (sitting in seat facing foward). I am so far out of warrantee, and it took all I had to buy machine, any one have any fixes that don't involve replacing the tank? It is a little frusterating only putting in half a tank at a time.

Thanks for any imput....

Johann

Mine was repaired the second time just a week ago. There is a new Kubota gasket since the old "new" gasket leaked as well - it more seeped than leaked.

The dealer said that it was out of warranty but would split the labor costs for installing the new gasket. Three hours labor was his estimate.

Since I then bought a FEL and he threw in the gasket replacement.

If you do it yourself, be sure to line up the float inside the tank so that it doesn't hang up on the sides. Also, when replacing the fenders make sure the levers don't bind - especially the 3 PH lever.

Sorry for the double post. TBN told me the first one wouldn't post - and then it did.

As others have said, it is a fairly cheap fix if you do it yourself. Get the repair kit from the dealer, but make sure it is the new version. The sending unit mounting was a poor design, new version is fine.

Hold the phone. I had a BX 2200. Had the same problem. Change the fuel filters. there are 2 of them . Most people only find one. I was pissed when mine leaked if I filled over half tank. After I changed both filters the problem went away..

The 2nd one is underside in the middle of the tractor.

Let me know if it works...

Hoosier Daddy: The fuel leak comes from the fuel sender under the left fender (on the other side from the fill).

What appears to happen is that if the tank is completely filled there is just enough air trapped in the top of the left tank to cause some positive air pressue and thus a leak from that area.

Try filling your tank completely full, drive around a bit, and then splash some water up under the left fender to see if the water comes back out contaminated with fuel. It will cause a rainbow effect if done in the sunshine.

The filters seem to be out of the loop for this problem.

Another issue with the filters is that the metal bar that they mount to have corners that could penetrate the plastic filter under vibration. Rounding them off with a grinder solves that problem.

That is good to know about the filters, when I get in there I will have to do some preventive filing.

If you need to work on an uphill incline, it can leak regardless of whether you have had the fix. I had mine full once and driving up the tilt bed trailer made it leak all over the place through the relief valve in the rear left corner. Make sure you're not totally full if you need to go up an incline.

Good knowledge. Will have to check for that relief valve.

GW , I understand your leak. There a was a problem with the original BX 2200's with a tank issue I learned on here and I asked about it. I was told mine was OK.

Then after 2 years I developed a fuel leak if I filled the tank up.. Same as you said on the left side. I was pissed.

Because the tractor was running rough I had changed one fuel filter and it smoothed out..

And, then one day on here, I found out I had another fuel filter under the middle of the tractor. I got under and changed it and then realized I did not have a leak anymore when filling past half tank.. Never had the leak problem again...

You may have a real leak but a cheap attempt to try is to change both filters and see what happens..

Worked for me..

Thanks,

Tom

The "worked for me" solution is always the best. That is why a forum like this is so valuable. Sharing fixes is what being neighborly is all about on the farm.
