My tractor was sitting all winter. It would start, but then would die. I changed the fuel filter and put in new fuel. Now it won’t start at all. I bled the air out of the fuel filter. When I opened the fuel bleed screw on the line no fuel came out. Is this a fuel pump problem?

No problem, you just have to bleed the entire system in order. Start with the input to the fuel filter, then through the fuel pump, and finishing at the injectors. Make sure fuel is flowing through each component - this may require cranking the tractor - then as fuel flows out freely without any bubbles you shut the bleeder or snug down the fitting - whichever it has. The trick is to tighten the bleeder or nut without letting any tiny bubble of air back in. You finally finish by loosening the fuel line nut at each injector as you crank the engine - which makes a mess.,

At some point as you are cranking, loosening, and tightening fuel line connections the tractor Wii start. If not, repeat the whole process.
It is messy, but not dangerous.
Luck,

Thank you. I will try it and let you know how if it worked out

A couple of other possibilities, a bad fuel pump, a broken wire to the fuel pump, a plugged up outlet in the fuel tank, bad fuel lines. This assumes you have a tractor with an electric lift pump, I’m not sure what tractor you have.

Glad to hear it worked. In these cases also watch for gook building up in the fuel, especially if the tank was rather empty. Future proofing this a bit..

This winter, I want to do something to prevent this. I was thinking of draining the tank or at least putting in some fuel additive.

Start it and run it at least once a month even when not using it. It’s good to circulate fluids through all the systems once in a while.
