Traction Fuel filter assembly

So I took apart the fuel filter to change it and out fell a red ring. Does it go on the bottom or the top? I can't find a assembly filter diagram. This is on a 2305.

The red ring goes in the bottom. It is a water indicator. My manual states "the red ring in the bottom floats on water." It evidently must be a little heavier than diesel oil, but lighter than water.
