How long can you guys go before filling the tank? I cut for a couple hours and was down half a tank.

I haven't really paid close attention but it does seem to like it's fuel (I bought my 318 this past spring).

Never had a 318, but I did have a Case/Ingersoll 448 with the 18hp Onan engine. I can't remember the size of the tank, but I know two hours of mowing would put quite a dent in the gas tank!!

Nick,
That sounds about right for fuel usage. I know my 318 will not win any economy contests. Don't forget it is a twin cylinder, you will not get the economy of a K series Kohler. Still a great tractor in my opinion.

Nick - a 318 is thirsty. I think mine was running rich on top of things - but by the time I cut the whole 'yard' (around 2 acres and change and around 1 1/2 hours due to the manuvering required) - I'd go through a big chunk of that 4 1/2 gallon tank.

Sounds like your numbers are fine (for a 318). Like Ken said, got to remember that's nearly an 800cc twin - not your typical GT one-lunger.

Have fun!

IF YOU THINK AN ONAN IS THIRSTY, TRY A 20 HP BRIGGS. MY NEPHEW JUST GOT AN L120. HE THOUGHT THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE GAS TANK!!! MY 16HP KOHLER GOES A LONG TIME!

Of course all this underscores why the 'ultimate' 318 is a 332! (a 318 with a nice compact Yanmar diesel under the hood).

Unfortunately, around here - 332 owners know what they've got! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I have an AC 620 with a 19.5 HP Onan engine. The fuel tank is 3.8 gallons. Two hours and I have to refuel. I ran my 35 HP Kubota diesel today for 8 hours and used less than 8 gallons of fuel.

I mowed with one all last year and loved it. It did have a tendency to overheat after an hour or so though. The radiator was hard to clean you had to use a garden hose each time and the grass go trapped between the firewall and radiator.

Thanks guys for your replies! I should be tearing the motor apart next week or so since she's running a little rough and smokes so bad it looks like a diesel when it runs. After a few hours of mowing I was down into the add one pint mark on the dipstick. Started full. I'm going to try and do it myself and if I get stuck I will take the motor into work.
