Front Snow Blade

I don't see how carefully plowing with a trip-edge blade would be any worse than what we often do with the bucket. The big thing would be to keep the speed down, and learn the area you're plowing to find those spots that will catch the blade and put stress on the FEL.

The big difference with the plow, is the side thrust when the blade is angled.
Many Ag loaders just aren't that heavy duty. They are material handler attachments and are flimsy compared to purpose built tractor loaders. There are more than a few bent loader arms from side thrust or off center lifts.

That being said, all loaders aren't created equal, and I would agree that carefully plowing would go a long way in preventing damage.

If I had lots of plowing to do, I would prefer a frame mount, dedicated snow plow. If all I needed to do, was to plow my driveway a few times a year, where all the hazards are known, I would go with a loader mount and use extra care, as suggested.

It's a 70 GMC short box step side- just finished it 6 months ago- my first attempt at restoration... earned a lot about what not to do... thanks for asking. Phil

Very cool! I'm looking for something very similar...wife wants an older, simpler run around truck. There's no shortage of projects she has for me, but that one I'd actually like :)

Good point about the side thrust....not much different than hooking one side of the bucket on something heavy, or immovable....not good!
