Front drive universal SC2400

While doing a preseason check today on my SC2400, I find the universal on the driveshaft to the front axel is shot. The tractor has just over 400 hours, so this seems to me to be early for such wear. Has anyone else had this problem and what was your experience with replacement parts? It would be nice if this joint was able to be greased.

This is sooner than could be reasonably hoped for perhaps, but I personally would not think twice about it given that it is a u-joint. I have found universal joints to be an odd sort when it comes to longevity. I have a 94 dodge truck with 380,000 miles on original drive shaft u-joints. My 2003 dodge failed at just over 100,000 miles. Had a Oldsmobile 98 custom cruiser that failed every 30 thousand, same on a 1976 dodge van. With essentially the same parts in them, the front u-joints on my 2003 dodge 4wd lasting over 170,000, 94 failed at 95,000.

Have had many experiences with bush hogs, hay balers steering mechanisms and they are allover the lot. Just change it and move on. One thing about u-joints is that once they start to loosen up it is time to change them. They reach a point where they self destruct and tear up other stuff as well.
