From time to time I try to pass on good information about computer here. This one is a good one, Most of you might know the differance between freeware & Open Source but if you do not here goes:
Freeware = free to use but someone ownes it - most of it cannot be used for commercial use wich means if you own a farm & write off the computer for tax reasons you can not use most freeware & shareware. NOW will someone come after you for useing there software ~ probebly not.
Open Source = there is no owner it belong to no one so you can use it anytime, anywhere, as much as you need it. & it is almost alway free. someplaces charge for it but then that usually comes with a CD (so you do not have to download it) & sometines support.
The reason I bring the above up is if you use Mico$oft Windows this is a good site ~ http://osswin.sourceforge.net/ ~
If you use Linux like me you are well aware of the Sourceforge site. If you are not they have just Open Source software there - They have almost everything you might need - as a matter of fact I am useing a program as I type this called CDex to convert cassette tapes to MP3's (audio books for my MP3 player).
I just bring this up to save some people some money - so if you need some software check this site out it might same you some $$
