Dang, I need rocks for all sorts of projects. My property is just a big pile of sandy loam. Currently accepting free rock deliveries, of all sizes, here in southeast Michigan.

I hate the idea of paying for rocks. But people dont seem to like it when you take the rock piles out of their yards without asking. :confused3:

I hear you! All my life I have collected pretty or interesting rocks. Since my Kubota the rocks have gotten bigger and the piles higher. It seems I get a new crop of rocks every year. No watering or fertilizing required, lol.

The joke up your way is that if you want to plant a tree, just dig out the rock, and you will have the hole.
After 13 years, I sold my Summer cottage in Shelburne 20 months ago, so I am all too familiar with NS rocks!

I just keep bushhogging them to make them a little smaller each time.

For ones over 24" local stone quarry gets $150 a ton. They are almost always sold out of them.

That's crazy, I move a ton of rocks around just in an hour. I'd love someone to come take them.

Rocks you say? Last year the wife and I when to a state park in upstate NH. They put little signs in front of large rocks saying "glacial rock". We both laughed. Around the house I have two kinds, one the backhoe can move and ones that are yard art.

Where I am, rocks are essentially non existent.
Plenty of sugary sand though!
Easy diggin!

Back in the 90's, when I was actively cave exploring, I would work with a volunteer group at Carlsbad Caverns. Our main goal was re-maping the cave to better standards and restoring some areas to what they originally looked like. Near the elevators was a large flat area that was actually fill from elevator blast debris. An offshoot of our group wanted to restore this area. They would carefully dig the debris out which often contained rocks. One day I helped as a couple would load wheelbarrows and one by one we would take them up the service elevators. We joked about how an easy way to remove all these rocks would be to let people take them out of the cave as a souvenir. The problem with that is it undermines the whole take only pictures, leave only footsteps. We did uncovers some old trash and buried rimstone dams. The natural elevation was easily 5' lower than the walkway so there was a lot of debris to remove and not long after I quit going out there.

My property has about 1 mile of stone border walls around 3' tall, 2' wide, and in the corners giant piles of rocks, most in the 12-18" range, but some 4' - 5'. I know they pulled them all out of my property so they could farm, but in the 200 years since they were built more have grown. This property is on the southern side, just below the mountain peak (1600') so the glaciers scrapped across the top of the mountain and dropped the debris in the low spot it came to .. my place. My neighbor across the road to the north has no loose rock, but several areas of bedrock showing through the grass, most with nice north/south striations carved in them. I've dug up some big ones, my limit is about 275 gallon oil tank size ... and I'll typically have to roll that where I want it. There is also a nice 200 year old dry laid stone bridge across a creek that bisects the property .. very strong and stable and has withstood 200 years of floods that sometimes go right over the top of it.
