Found this on the property today while using the metal detector .. Any idea what it is?



It's marked, patent pending MMI 4100

From the picture it looks like a tubing or pipe bender. Are the top & bottom separated with a curved grove??

Looks a lot like an EMT bending die, sort of like this one:

Need a side view next to a ruler. If it is big enough, could be a die for bending exhaust pipe or whatever.. Or maybe someone cast it just to mess with you...[[ ]] Quick uneducated search = MMI Engineering 4" radius die ....

Are the edges of the ends clean or do they appear to be ragged/broken off? If ragged, I would say it is a section of a pulley wheel from some old machine.

Or it could be part of a farm implement. Walking the fields I sometimes find pieces of farm equipment that fell off 50 years ago.

To me it looks like part of what was once a bushing for a slow moving shaft on a farm implement. For example the shaft that raises the implement out of the ground. They were often made out of cast iron and held in place with a piece of steel on each side. That's what the shoulder on each side would be for.
