Found a Place with more stupid people than CL!

I have been using Facebook Market Place for about a month.
I have a boat part listed for sale and yesterday a guy said he wants it, ask if I could hold it for him when he gets off work a 4 pm.
Said he will have his sister go to the bank and get the money then bring him to get it. (he has no licence to drive)
They call at 4pm, I give directions, they show up 3 hours later, guy is drunk then wants to argue and complain about the price! No sale.
Another lawn care item, guy has called me 6-8 times wanting lower price.
Wanting me to deliver it 30 miles away or pay someone he found $100. to come get it for him!
I told the price is what it is, the item is where it is!!
Am I missing something????????

I checked the site out a few times back when I was on FB and very quickly came to the same conclusion. I never listed anything, but some of the ads left me scratching my head.

Same thing happens when you put cat food on your porch for stray cats......coons, skunks and who knows what else will come around.
No need to negotiate until they are standing in front of you. A simple response or addition to the post that you will only negotiate in person should save you a lot of time.
I know I’m on the extreme end but I don’t buy or sell on any site without a reputation tracker- eBay, Gun Broker etc.

That said, that's how I got my log splitter. One neighbor who knew what I wanted saw it listed by another neighbor and passed the phone number to me. So, I got it from there without ever going there.

We put up new garage and I was looking for 8' florescent light fixtures, and was using facebook marketplace, ackually didnt have any issues other than driving up to Tupper Lake for the farthest bunch of them. But, embarrassingly I must admit, when I'm selling something and they or who are on my way or close to where I work I will deliver the selling item, and for one I am in control, two, I'm on their property they have no idea where I live. I get a little nervous with unknown people driving in to my home on a cul-de-sac in the woods. Two pick ups in Vermont, one in Rhode Island, Tupper Lake, oh, and trailer guy in greenwich gave me 6 more to boot 48 fixtures and counting.

I only joined to find old friends that may be on there and did find one in Alaska.
I only put on minimal information to get access too.
I did find a deal on a boat, less than half going price!
I guess it's better to buy there than sell. ???

I use Craigslist to sell stuff. I have sold a lot of equipment in CL with never a problem, and it goes pretty quick.

I use it all the time to sell. I can see a persons profile and it helps me see if they have any friends in common to ask what they are like.
It saves me a lot of the hassle of ebay for shipping. Price is what the price is listed I make sure to tell them that in advance. If they want to use credit card I have them add 10% do to the fees with square or paypal.

Had one friend send me a picture of his dinner, another of the shoes his daughter and him bought. (Cute, but no). All on one day.

No reason, why one person I know, has to know any another exists. I have very varying interests. Man, I have had more than one friend, stupid jeaulous, over the fact, that I had other friends!

There’s plenty of idiots on both sites. I’ve found marketplace to be a successful platform for selling and I’ve bought a few things there. There is far less scams on market place. I’ve only identified one where CL is half scams. Also market place doesn’t allow duplicate adds. I hate it when someone post the same add over and over again on CL. Also I don’t like adds with email only. 2/3 of them won’t reply. Market place is better in that aspect. There is another site local sales network and market place has completely ate there lunch. I don’t even go there anymore because there’s not more than a few adds of anything.

I'm a huge fan of Facebook and all it offers. The genius behind it is that you can limit who you deal with on there, so if there is somebody or something that you do not like, it's super easy to block it.

Selling and buying online is the same with any format. People want the most for their money and it doesn't cost you anything to offer less, or ask more. I personally hate dealing with people when selling things, so I rarely do this. I do enjoy finding a good deal on something that I need, but I weigh in the BS factor in dealing with the seller before I commit to buying it. A lot of the time, it's just easier to buy brand new and not deal with people that I don't know.

Funny you say that. My wife was looking at the Facebook page of someone she went to school with. They are doing so great, there kids are doing so great, they don't know what to do with all their money. You get the picture. I could tell my wife was a little jealous and she admitted it. I was trying to tell my wife is this all true, exaggerated a little, who knows.
