If you're selling online, and they come to your house to buy, do they now have a connection between your social posts and where you live? Just seems that would not be wanted, being able to keep track of what and when you are doing something in the future and knowing where you live.

Facebook offers a general location but not the exact address. I don’t usually meet people at my house. Sometimes it’s unavoidable for the object at hand but usually I meet them somewhere with it.

I only joined to find old friends that may be on there and did find one in Alaska.
I only put on minimal information to get access too.
I did find a deal on a boat, less than half going price!
I guess it's better to buy there than sell. ???

I joined one night when I was camped out in the company office with nothing else to do, mostly to see if I could find out about a friend who I hadn't heard from since his wedding just before he went off into the navy. It took me less than an hour to find him.
When my brother's heart got so bad that he was barely mobile, he spent a lot of time there because it enabled him to keep up with his friends who were scattered from Maine to the west coast. He was a lot more sociable than I am. After he passed away I stayed on for a while, but it eventually got so freaking boring that I left. Also after the 2016 election the political crap got so rabid that it wasn't worth being there. I bailed about 1 1/2 years ago, and given the data mining from that site I won't be back.

I find FB works MUCH better than CL.

Got a mower for sale.."I can come right now, with cash!"...i'm at work, how about 6pm (3 hours)..."no"....wtf?

Sellers are THE WORST - tried to buy multiple truck beds...no response.
Wife is looking at tables, asks "Can you give me measurements?"..."my husband will" and no more responses.

I talked to a guy with a cart for sale, - fb AND a phone call - sounds great, oh, you think you have a harness? Can you check and call me back. NO call back, NO replies to FB messages..nothing. WTF?

Tomorrow I go to get a land pride finish mower..if it's good (he says it is...looks well used in the pics) great. Fingers crossed.

I did get an ariens tractor, bagger, seeder/spreader and lawn rake - $550.
5" disk, j-bar, nearly new - $300
Esseintially a new 5' back blade, mahindra, $150.

So the deals are out there. And with FB you do have a chance to rate teh buyer/seller and see who they are on FB. Better than CL.

But folks are still nuts.

It's funny how all the people that say they don't use FB are the ones complaining how bad it is...
As far as the selling problems, it's not FB it's people in general. At least on FB you know a little about who you are dealing with.

I don’t understand why some people post an add with no or very limited discrimination especially vehicles. I see vehicles listed all the time without mileage, year, 4x4 or not or transmission type. Market place requires a picture but those that post on other sites sometimes don’t post a picture. Not listing the price or not listing the actual price in the description is another thing I don’t like. Spending 5 minuets writing a good description is way time ahead vs answering 50 messages asking the questions you could have already cleared up. And then there’s the people that don’t bother reading the good description I actually did write and message anyway.

4570Man you're absolutely right. Since it doesn't cost by the word and you can include lots of pictures, there is no excuse for subpar descriptions.
When I list something, I try to think of everything someone might ask, and include that.
It would also be nice if they did a quick check for spelling errors, as most apps will put a squiggly red line under questionable words.

It can be the wild west... this is why some take the hit and only buy/sell through dealers... quick and simple for a price.

Several Police Departments here have Social Media Exchange sites on Police Property... strangers meet and complete the transaction.

Price is a very important thing to me; yet even some auto dealers also seem to keep that as a secret number. What I really hate is when I stop and ask a simple question about a vehicle (usually the price) and they recite the entire description that I have already read.
One thing I've found about CL is an interested buyer vs a tire kicker is going to pick up the phone, not send endless emails.
