I gotta say though, that I have met the nicest people selling my stuff. One guy and me went back and forth for months missing each other for some old JD Gator Fenders. I don't know why he didn't just call me, and we could have met sooner. Finally, he showed up as promised, at night, in a Blizzard, some two hours from his home, and paid my asking price.

Haven稚 used the Facebook thing and probably won稚 but since I stoped responding to any seller or buyer who doesn稚 know how to use a phone and actually talk to me no matter the format. I have had a much better time with both buying and selling.

I do everything I can to avoid telephones. Hate 'em. I do all I can by email. I want it in writing so I can look back and review it later.

The best description I ever heard of Facebook was written by greasemonkeyok years ago.

A fictional place where narcissists go to stroke one another."Look at me, aren't I wonderful." "Yes yes, you are, now look at me and tell me how wonderful I am."

Yeah that's the narcissist's view of it, after they get called out for being narcissists.....It's a terrific way to keep in touch with family and friends and see what's going on in their lives.

• Marketplace (along with being free) is typically better than CL because you can see details about who is responding. It's organized into interest areas. I subscribe to "NH Snowmobiles For Sale." Pretty useful.
• My HS class started a page. We've made contact with 130 of 210 for our 50th reunion in 2021.
• My Army unit has a page. Guy came to visit me I haven't seen since we served together in Germany in 1985.
• Connected with guys from my college lacrosse team. Just saw one at a game, first time in 44 years.
• Our youth hockey organization has a page. A lot easier to keep up to date than a website, and it's free.

You know all that could be done without FakeBook, right? People used to start websites for those things. Discussion boards like this one can be added easily and for free.

And there would be even more control over who could see what.

Facebook has quite likely the largest following in the world. Go start your own better for sale site if it’s so easy. Make a better order site than Amazon while you’re at it. And Facebook has tons of smaller for sale sites than market place that are a closed group. I list in the biggest 10 and I don’t recall ever selling an item there. Market place is much better.

It seems to me, tht E-Mail and Texts would be better than voice, except, for whatever reason, people are incapable of lining up those messages with real life. If I talk to someone on the phone and they say they will be here at 2 pm tomorrow, that will probably happen. That seems almost impossible to do via messaging. Or there is a flurry of communication, and then nothing, like they fell off the earth.

You can't get here with GPS because of municipal address structuring. I tell people that. I give them instructions. Then, they are an hour late, because they used GPS and got lost! Go figure! Many, many people, simply seem incapable of listening, anymore.

I just went through all of my old "sent" emails. Between my snowsled which I just sold and my Ranger that I still have I counted 35 emails... not counting the "Will you take 1/2 of the asking price" that I delete without even replying. The person that bought my snowsled isn't on there because he called me, when he saw the ad.
I still have my Ranger. Most times after replying multiple times people will tell me "You live too far away"... my freaking address is right there in the ad, next to the pictures. They couldn't figure that out first, before wasting my time?
I also came across an old email about the CadPlans backhoe which I sold a couple of years ago... advertised it for $1600, the respondent said "will you take $1000?", with no other questions first. I sold it for $1450... to somebody who called and talked to me about it.

There were countless emails and texts when I had my L275 advertised; as I was loading the above mentioned BH onto the new owner's trailer I got a call on my cell phone, and sold the Kubota that afternoon. Over the years I have found that texts and emails are from tire kickers; whereas an interested buyer will pick up the phone. There may be a few exceptions to that rule, but they are few and far between.

I sold a pickup with FB. My wife put it for sale. After a bunch of idiots that probably weren't going to buy asked stupid questions and 1 idiot drove it around the block and commited to buy it, then a week later I tracked him down he said "his bank wouldn't finance it" ($8000 10 year old 4wd truck), I told my wife take it off there. Then the mom of a friend from growing up saw it and bought it immediately.

So, I guess it's a way to tell everyone you know about something without calling all of them.

I have sold alot on craigslist too. I always meet at the grocery store next to police station. Dont want strangers at my house snooping. With FB at least you have some background on them if anything goes wrong.

I hate those people. You can forget about ever sending a text with more than one question. They answer the first one and ignore the rest.

That happens a LOT with postings on this board.
