Funny, I've had fewer morons with FB marketplace than I have with CL. I only had one buyer who negotiated (in person) a lower price and that was for a vehicle. Everyone else showed up on-time and paid the asking price.

Meh, what can they get with a VIN? How long you owned it, if its been in a crash, etc.
If they can get your name/address from that, they can probably get it from a phone number.

With a vin # it wouldn't surprise me if someone came with a new title in their name & the police to pick up "their" truck.

I'd imagine most, if not all states have enough hoops to jump thru in order to get a "replacement" title so the likelihood of this happening are slim to none. Otherwise, what's to stop someone from copying the VIN from a random car in a parking lot and filing for a title?

For me personally, when I bid a job and somebody comes back and says they will hire me if I do it for less, I walk away. I've learned that this is a huge red flag and the job will be nothing but issues. This has proven to be true on several bids that they hired somebody else to do the work, who did it for less, and they then called me to come fix what was done, or they post on FB of how horrible the contractor was.

Actually they can. Will probably get caught, eventually. But in a lot of states auto title fraud is very easy.

I suppose its possible, but its not anything that anyone walking by can't read (its visible through the lower left corner of most windshields).
I wouldn't buy a car without checking the VIN to make sure it hasn't been reported as stolen.

That is a mandatory first step. It doesn't guarantee that the person selling the car is the actual owner though. Title fraud is more common than a lot of people realize. CL is a big place for it.

One thing is to see the actual title the seller has before you agree to anything. Pay attention to any VIN discrepancy.

This is one place to start: VINCheck(R) | National Insurance Crime Bureau

I just posted an ad for a 30KVA transformer for sale. I indicated that my asking price is firm and I won't respond to offers. I don't think you can be more fair or clear. I shall see what happens.

It will be interesting to see how many people try anyways. Then again if you have a fair price it may not last long enough to find out.

Is delivery included... will you take payments?

Both scenarios could happen while still be firm on price...

I bought a home from an estate and the lawyer said only full price offers will be considered when my offer was rejected...

So I then made a new offer at full price with terms... after all they said full price.

To my surprise it was accepted...

My all cash offer was 87% of list... whereas my full price offer was interest only for 2 years with 25% down...
