Hello all,
I went and looked at a local 5030 mfwd that I'm thinking of purchasing. Here's what I saw and I would appreciate anything else I need to check and any other insight that can be offered. It needs some TLC.....seat, top and front tires especially. I tried all high and low gears along with the shuttle forward and reverse. it seemed to stay in all gears and didn't grind going in an out. The clutch felt good however in what i thought was a high gear i couldn't choke the tractor down because its going to need rear brakes on each side. I engaged the pto and turned as i would have expected but i honestly don't think it quit turning when i engaged the clutch. if someone could offer me some testing techniques i would appreciative. i'm not sure whether this tractor has a 1 or 2 stage clutch on it. The tractor overall was pretty greasy so it will need a good pressure washing. the meter showed like 3600 hours but the guy didn't know if it really worked or not. It looks likes these tractors normally go for around 15k if they are in really good shape....I'm thinking i can get this one for around 7k. thoughts on that? I currently have a 3000 and my mechanic rebuilt the lift a few years back and its jumping again. He says that going to happen (and it will have to be rebuilt every few years if I don't want it to jump), because the parts they have to use now aren't original Ford parts and do not hold up as long. Am I going to run into the same thing not or down the road with this model Ford? Thanks in advance for any info you all can offer. Oh, I checked the oil and it did not have a burnt smell, of course it was black, but as I read diesel oil is going to be that way.
Thanks,
Clay
