Fordson major pto shaft

Any one know if you can permently remove the pto shaft, mounting a backhoe and it's in the way, back hoe won't be coming off, asking before I research to save abit of time

I suppose you could pull the cove and shaft and fabricate a blank cover.

That is what I want to do, just need to make sure you can just pull the shaft, ie nothing else will fall apart with it not being there and if its just a matter of pulling the shaft or do I have to get right up in it to be able to get it out
