After reading thru 16 pages of this http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/trailers-transportation/145788-ford-2009-v-10-a-16.html

I am not brand loyal, as i own 2 duramax trucks, 1 dodge gasser, several fords gas and 7.3's

Just wanted to start a fresh thread on this!

3 mos. ago purchased a 2006 6.0 f350 xl truck 4x4 cruise, tilt, and air 72k miles! price paid $12k

There goes the resale argument!

This truck cost me 1200 for one injector replacement, and the starter went out also around 300. Changed oil twice at about100 per change, doing it myself and changed both fuel filters once at 75.00. All of this with less than 75000 miles, oh yeah no warranty, that ran out 4 mos ago! Previous owner already replaced turbo, injection pump, and water pump!

After much research, found out it very well may end up costing another 5-10k
by the time egr, head gaskets, oil cooler, and the rest of the injectors need replaced! This may happen tomorrow or never but, according to eveything i read, it's likely

Can't see much savings here!
Ebay has 06 King Ranch pick ups that are selling for less than 15k with good miles

Anyway, traded it for an 06 v10 just like it Monday cause i absolutely love the Super Duty trucks!

I have other trucks i love too.. LOL

Kinda wanted to keep this just Ford topic, but could say the same sorta thing about my 01 Duramax that cost me $4500 to have injectors replaced at 62,000 miles ( about 6 mos out of warranty at the time!)

Or the $4200 bill I got for an injection pump, lift pump and injectors on the last cummins i had!

The way i see it any fuel mileage loss will be a mute point compared to owning The 6.0! or any of the newer diesels imo! Yes i do work them and yes i regularly tow 5-12k on a 4500lb trailer for a gcvw of up to 26k

I currently own 97' f-250, 01' f-350, and an 02' f-350, all with 7.3L Powerstrokes. All have over 200K+ miles on them and I haven't had to touch them other than routine maint. I average 20 mpg out of my 02'.

Unfortunately the 6.0L was one of Fords biggest mistakes. The 6.4L is vast improvement and the new 6.7L is a freak of nature! I have friends and family with every engine and I have to say that Ford made up for the 6.0L with the new 6.7L. It's quick, quiet, great mpg, and so far no re-occurring problems.

My brother-in-law has a 06' V-10 and an 03' 7.3L (02 1/2'). He says the V-10 is ok as long as your not pulling and you don't mind filling up every other day. He only bought it cuz it was a real good deal.

I hear a lot of bad experiences out there with the 6.0 litres powerstrokes. My experience was much different. I had a '06 PS lariat crew cab dualie, 4x4 and the 6 spd manual. Loved it!! Only reason I let it go was because I deploying to Afghanistan for a year, did not have a place to store it, and did not want to let it sit for a year. The only issues I had with the truck was the turbo went on me, but the warranty covered it. And, I had a problem with the oil cooler. Still, warranty covered it. On both occasions, my buddies Frank and Lou at Crown Ford in Fayetteville had the truck back to me in a couple of days. I did about every upgrade to the truck that I could afford: Afe Intake, CFM+ Big Mouth Intake Manifold, Silverline Dual Exhaust, Riderite Air Suspension, superchip that I set at tow safe or economy, and even switched to American Force 19.5 Classic Wheels. I was just coming up on 118K when I sold it. I understand that Ford got off to a rough start with the 6.0. But, after about '05, I think they got the bugs worked out. I routinely pulled a 40' flatbed 5th wheel and a 7 ton dump trailer. So, I did not baby the truck. I put it to the max and it performed every time. I think routine maintenace and due care is what makes the difference. The truck averaged 16-18 mpg when cruisin and 12-14 when hauling. Although, it would drop to around 9 mpg when I put my foot in it :) I did find out though, that the smallest little crack or hole in a hose will put you on side of the road. Having said that, I do think the 7.3L was the best motor put out there. It was the game changer. I had an '01 power XLT with the same set-up minus the 19.5" wheels. I hope to be able to get a 2012 powerstroke when I return to the states.

For most people the gas version of these trucks will do the job. I have had 4 diesels, 3 Fords and a GM and had good luck with all the Fords, not the GM. I had the same injector issues you did.

Diesels sold good for a time because they were cool. Thats it. 9 out of 10 really did not need them. I will probably never buy another. Heck, the new F-150 makes more power and has a higher tow rating than the 3/4 ton Diesel 6.5L my uncle has in his Suburban that was built in 199?

What I am getting at is the gas engines are closing the gap and the diesels just keep getting stronger for bragging rights.

For me the 2 Ford 6.0L motors have been trouble free. Absolutely nothing.

Yes, I have a 95 powerstroke a 94 turbo idi and a 93 non-turbo idi. I've had atleast 50 diff. diesel trucks and only a hand full got 20 mpg empty. 4 that i can think of are 97 f350 srw, 05 3500 srw chevy, 89 Ram 2500, 2000 model ram 2500. The problem is they don't make these mpg numbers in later model diesels with the exception of the 05 Dmax! I'm burnt out on Gm's after the last three i've had have suffered all the same problems at around the same time. ( i won't get into that), but right now i'm kinda into the fords. I can't afford to buy new trucks so i try to buy late model low mileage. Anyway, in the price range of $20,000 or less i think the V10 is a very pleasing option.

Not arguing with you guys about the V10 having enough power to pull a heavy load, but in my particular instance, I believethe V-10 has an edge over all the diesels i've personally owned when it comes to towing! Once again all of my trucks remain in stock form. Maybe ya'll are comparing chipped or programmed diesels to the performance of the V10?

Just towed 8000lb on a 4500lb trailer up and down hills and hollars with many starts and stops today. This is a route i travel often, with the 6.0 i would get 9.5 mpg with the V10 i got 9.3 mpg <---unbelievable i know, but true. Though i've had this truck less than a week, i am very impressed with the mileage and as far as towing performance is concerned, if any diff. at all, i believe the V10 has a slight edge!

If I continue to see numbers like , i've seen this week, i will be looking for more V10's to replace my diesel fleet! I am just so unhappy with repairs and maint. on these so called long life diesel engines.

P.S. ---- any truck i've mentioned that has or does belong to me, you can assume i'm referring to 4x4 and almost always regular cab! I only buy 4x4 and the wife is usually the only one driving anything other than a regular cab. We need a crew for the family!

I also researched th 6.0 prior to buying and took a gamble hoping i would get a good one! Can't afford newer and seems there aren't many 7.3's left that aren't worn out or rusted down that anyone would like to part with! As I was saying, in my price range, if buying a Ford, i believe the V10 may have been my last but best option!

Not sure where you are buying your fuel injectors from but they are under $300 at www.shopdieselspecialists.com/Alliant-Power-Fuel-Injector-p/ap60901.htm and the oil change, NO-WAY its a $100 and your doing it your self. I take mind to the Dodge dealership, its $63 after tax. I think the fords may take one or two quarts more than the Cummins. Now for the $300 starter you are correct.
You might want to find another place to buy your diesel if your having that much trouble with pumps and injectors.

You might want to find another place to buy your diesel if your having that much trouble with pumps and injectors.

$14 per gallon x 4 (this is rotella bout cheapest there is) = $48.00 = tax bout $55 + oil filter (k&n 40.00 at o'reilly's) + tax so i guess that would be 88.00 +tax 6.00---for a total of 94.00!

yep your absolutely right, when i said about $100 i missed it by 6.00....sorry bout that!

Don't know how much the injector cost, only know the total bill!
Can't control where you buy fuel when you are all over the country!
Did you know in the state of Indiana there are absolutely no regulations on fuel quality or the amount of water your getting in your fuel? (call weights and measures...I did)
