I just purchased a ford parts tractor with loader and backhoe on it for my ford 3400 .the serial # is c146996-6h18 .I believe its a 3400 it has cast iron oil pan and one piece front axle .trying to identify serial # .thanks

There should be another number that will tell the model. It will be a 6 digit number something like "12345A" or "A1234B".

The 6h18 is the build date, meaning it was built August 18, 1966 or possibly 1976 depending on what the model code shows. Also that build date number should be followed by an "A", "B" or "C" which tells if it was day, evening or night shift.

The one piece front axle means it is an industrial tractor, which would make since with the loader and backhoe one it. Unless someone swapped it out at sometime.

The serial number falls into the 1966 range of numbers. You can't tell the model number by the serial number since Ford used the same range of numbers for different models. I see 3000 and 4000 models used the same 1966 range of numbers. The industrial models fell into that same range of numbers.
