Whe trying to start my tractor, I fed the starting fluid too soon, which caused one loud knock and the engine turned backwards. I again tried to start it and it cranked OK, but would not start. I checked the supply pump and it was delivering fuel. Next I loosened the number one cylinder fuel line at the injector, and there was not any fuel coming out. Then I loosened all six of the injector lines at the pump, and cranked it over again, but still had no fuel coming out.
Is there something that can shear off in this situation, or does it destroy the pump if it is turned backwards? I have been told that this can break a piston but except for the initial knock I haven’t heard anything else that sounds broken.
The man who owns the tractor is 80 years old and doesn’t get on the Internet, so I am posting this for him. Thanks for any advice.
