I recently purchased a 1951 8n The hudraulic lift will not work. There is no apparent or unusal noise in the system, all other functions are in order, Where do I start? I want to do the work myself. Help if you can. Thanks

This may be a dumb question and forgive me if so but is the PTO in gear. 8n's will not lift the 3pt unless the PTO is engaged.

Another tip, the clutch must be out to lift. This is not a live lift system. Clutch out and pto in gear at the end of every row. Jy

as long as you've checked the basics.....

there is a "safety valve," or at least that's what grandpa always called them.....

drain the trans fluid (don't stick your arm in it, it can absorb through the skin and make you sick...don't ask how we know)

remove the round side plate/inspection cover on the left hand side down under where you butt sits...

then you have to reach back in the belly of the tractor to get to it....i think we cut off a special wrench just for this job...

it has been about 8 years since i did mine, so i may be off somewhat and i don't remember much more......
