Sounds like the torque converter might be stuck on the transmission input seal.
Through the starter hole, unbolt the flex plate from the flywheel. 8 bolts.

Thank you for that. Do I need to drain the transmission as well? I don’t want any surprises!

Shouldn't have to as the torque converter will stay on the transmission. However, replace the input seal on the transmission and the freeze plugs, rear main seal on the engine.

No clearance to unbolt those 8. I had to unbolt the 20 bolts from converter to flywheel. Once the engine was out I saw a hole through the back plate someone had cut to gain access to those bolts. Would have given me 3” more or so.
When I did, About a gallon of water then fluid came out of the converter/flywheel. How’s that get in there? Tractor had sat for maybe 10-15 years. Could it be condensation?
I was previously having trouble with milky trans fluid, just not being able to flush it all out from my original restore.
Engines out. So if I take the steering pump and oil filter off. Should I lay it on the let side. I put it on my trailer and brought it home to my 20’ tent and I’ll do the rebuild on the trailer. This thing is massive.
