Ford 4000 lift arm end adjustments

working on a 4000 series tractor that has a feature I've not seen before. The ends of the lift arms where the balls go into where you attach your implement, seem to be able to extend out about 10 inches. Seems someone welded them in retracted mode, but the weld on the left one broke, so now it's in extended mode. If I push the end back into the lift arm ( retracted mode) there's nothing to hold it in place and extends back out by itself. Is there a part missing or something to allow them to hold their retracted/extended positions?

I'm guessing someone swapped your lower arms with telescoping ones from a 3630 or some such. Parts (retaining pins, etc.) should be available at a good tractor supply. Good luck.

I'm assuming you have a 65-75 3 cylinder 4000. You should always mention that or include it in your profile.
10 inches seems like an awful lot. 4-5 is the norm unless you have something I haven't seen before.
They are a Very handy feature when hooking up to a heavy impliment.
Hard to believe someone would weld them shut.
Parts for them are still available from New Holland. I would fix it.

It is possible the ends are OEM or aftermarket. We do not know how they work unless we know what you have. That is why pictures are important.

I can get pictures but they look like the ones above but without the hump on top just a hole and I piece of cable in the hole
