ford 3000 starting

I have a 1974 3000 gas. Spark was weak so I replaced points, condensor and rotor. Spark was greatly improved, BUT, when I try to start it, it backfires through the carb and will not start. HELP!!

It sounds as though your timing is way of. Check to be sure your firing order is correct and number one cylinder on the engine is number one on the distributor. Check the gap on your points to be sure it's where it's supposed to be. You can then get your timing pretty close by static timing the engine.
