Need some advice. I have 74 Ford 2000 3-cylinder diesel that has no hydraulics. Since it was old, I decided to rebuild the pump and replace all orings and seals on the lift piston (under the lift cover). I primed the system and still have no hydraulics. I hooked a pressure gauge to the plug on the accessory cover (under the seat); zero pressure. Hooked the gauge to the hex plug on the pump itself; it has some pressure, but not enough to register 500 psi. The manual says it should have 1500 psi.

The only time I could get the lift arms to raise was to pull the plug that holds in the check valve (under the seat) and allow the check valve to bleed by. It makes me think the pump is not putting out enough pressure counteract the spring tension on the check valve. I could cut down the spring, but really don't want to do that.

Any advice is helpful. Thanks

BTW, the pump is mounted on the left rear side of the engine and has no filter on the pump. I have cleaned the screen in the sump and refilled with tractor hydraulic fluid.
Thanks

Hello Bubba - I too am having a problem with my '71 model 2000. When I took my lift cover off I was amazed at the gunk inside the housing. What a project to get the suction screen out to clean it. I had to remove the PTO to do it. I'm having the lift rebuilt by my dealer. The screen was plugged solid and I found what looks like pieces of duct tape on it.

There is also a return filter in there. Very easy to remove. Are you sure you cleaned the suction screen?

I just looked at my I&T FO-31 book and didn't see anything about priming the hyd. pump. I thought it was self priming.

Hey Dawzie,
Actually when I had the pump off I blew compressed air in both lines and re-bled the system by removing the hex head plug on the pump, hooked a fitting and clear hose to pump directly back into the axle. It took awhile to bleed and actually had to force-feed oil into the pump until it finally picked it up. Waiting for it to warm up to get back working on it.
Thanks for the info.
