ford 1720 rear axle housing

not sure year, but i think its a 1989, 4x4. my stepdad needs to know it the rear axle housings are interchangable. for what ever reason he wants to swap the right side with the left side. also how will this, if at all, affect the rear brake set-up? thanks in advance.

SBA326342310 is the part number for the brake & wheel shaft case, as they call it. Over $800 new most anywhere, I suppose. Same part number for both sides, so they are interchangable. If the thing is assembled correctly, the brakes will work as good or bad after swapping the housing as before.
