Wondering if anyone else has had this failure on their 1710:

You can see from the picture that the cracks propagated from the spline roots.

I mostly use the tractor with the loader so there's a little more load on the steering shaft than with no loader. It looks like the replacement part from NH is NLA so I had to try to fix it. After machining a vee, I TIG welded multiple passes (cooling the bearing surfaces between passes to keep them case hardened), then machined back to net shape. It's holding up so far.

Great job fixing it, hope it holds together for you! Looks like it's been cracked for some time before breaking.
