How easy is it to hurt the system by introducing dirt through the hose ends? I just realized I may have done this the other day. Filter should prevent catastrophe, hopefully?

Your filters will catch most of the garbage, at times it can hang in the quick couplers. I try and keep a couple of rags and a can of brake clean in the tractor to flush out the female couplings and then wipe the male parts off with the damp rag.
I have little use for the various covers and plugs available as they always seem to get dirtier then the hose ends or couplers.
