The manual on the LA402 loader indicates that it should not be put into the float position until the bucket is resting on the ground. Is there a mechanical reason for this? I've always dropped the boom using the float position as I approach a pile.

I was also pleasantly surprised to find that curl and dump actions continue to work with the joystick in float position. Makes it really easy to feather the attack angle when doing things like scraping snow off the drive or removing snow from the horse's mud lot. The diagram for the joystick doesn't indicate that this would work.

I use float the same way you do. If loader was put in to float with a full load it will drop very fast.
I believe manufactures use statements like this to avoid printing a whole book on how to use float under any condition that it might be used. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I wish they would differentiate between what is important for safety reasons and what is important for mechanical reasons. That way I could more easily ignore all the safety advice. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
