Note that waving them past can cause you to have partial liability for any accident that happens while they are passing you.

Aaron, I should have said, I only let people pass me while I pull into a turn lane or driveway, never while I am still on the road, I guess I just wave at them for my own well being and their knowledge that I am aware of them.

I ran my last tractor up the highway several times; the first was about 18 miles from the rental place I moved from to here. I left home about 5:00 that Sunday morning, to beat the traffic. Often I would ride the mile to town for fuel, until the store closed. :( Then for a couple of winters I rented a place on the lake, and would run the tractor over to plow, and either run it back again, or leave it there and sled back (through the woods) to get my truck.

My biggest concern was log trucks, but once the first one went past they all knew that I was on the road. My tractor is on the same commercial policy as my truck, with a million $/liability.

I do a few hundred miles a year of road travel with tractor, hauling on 50 MPH roads.

You will loose speed on hills of any decent grade and length. You will be down to a crawl if heavily loaded. I've pulled hills at 5 MPH with a loaded wagon (5 ton or so). I have also driven tractors that I needed to down shift up hill not even pulling anything.

Just be legal for the road (SMV, lights, turn signals, plates and insurance if required) and take your time.

Don't worry about watching traffic behind you too much, unless you have legal requirement to pull off, stay in your lane and do not encourage people to pass. They can decide to pass on their own.

Insurance is another concern. My homeowner's insurance would cover me for losses/damages on my property and on the public road along my property lines only.

I'll second this because the issue of insurance coverage is so easily overlooked or ignored. I bet most of us don't use our CUTS and UTVs in farming or other business, so don't carry farm or commercial policy coverage. Typical homeowner's policies don't cover the tractor when not on our own property, either for third-party liability or loss/damage to the tractor itself. Drive onto the public road, or even just onto a neighbor's adjoining property to help him out, and there is zero coverage. Jbrumberg's homeowner's policy sounds unusual, as it evidently covers operation on the public road along his property lines.

In the absence of additional coverage, the risk of driving a mile to the fuel station on the public road is just not worth it to me. Sure, the odds of an accident are small. But if an impatient jerk tries to pass and causes a wreck involving another car, you're on your own. Among other things, even if you're totally not at fault, nobody's going to pay for the lawyer to represent you if a blame game follows and you need one.

I have full coverage for my tractor, on the same commercial policy as my pickup.

I see international drivers are as bad mannered to tractors as new zealand.
Has anyone encountered "over width egos"? These idiots camp on the centre line and refuse to overtake unless you get completely off the road, even when the road is clear. Local drivers will over take (over-width egos) from 2 or 3 cars back and they still refuse to over take, but they would not dream off getting off the centre line to allow other drivers past. These morons were only on the beach road thankfully.
