Hey all,
This is my first time posting on this site. I've enjoyed reading the other posts and really gleaned some ideas from everyone!
I bought an old (30 yrs +) Kabota L1500 with 830 hrs on it (if the hour meter can be trusted!) with an FEL and a huge couter wieght on the 3 pt. Iv'e used this tractor about 45 hrs and love it!
I've been wondering how it would do in the snow. and today I found out. I put some (way to big) tractor chains someone gave me on the Ag wheels (the big lugs) and many of the links just fell between and stayed between the lugs.(I messed with the chains and many bungee cords for hours ) My driveway is 3/4 of a mile long but we only plow ( last three years I hand shoveled) the first 400-500 ft of the up to 12% grade which comes off a subdivision road that is almost as steep (the rest of the road we leave so we can x-xountry ski in the middle of the wheel tracks). I just pushed the snow down and accross the main road drove up and did it again. What a blast! I was worried i wouldn't get back up but had very little problems ( some problems with turning if I had the bucket pushing down too much and had to go forward, not reverse) I was impressed that the traction was as good as it was with the chains only partially working here and there! (my back is so much happier)

I can only imagine what 4 wd could do! I want it!

Well, anyway I had to tell some folks that could relate. (my wife just humors me)
Thanks
dave

Congratulations and welcome. You northern staters get to keep tractoring when the cold weather hits. Us mid staters have to wait out the winter since we don't have any snow and it's to wet or cold to play uuh work. Warm southerners can go year round.

Welcome Dave. Good to have you on the board. My previous tractors were 2WD and I run chains on them year around and they did what I needed them to do in the snow. I will have to say it is nice having 4WD when the going get tough.

We live on the western slope in colorado (west side of the continental divide) at about 6500 feet. This is actually a very dry area and doesn't get too much snow or extreme cold. We have 40 acres of semi desert in the summer with cactus, pinyon and juniper trees ( and tons of rock) . There is usually just enough snow to cross country ski if there is a decent base. I love being able to just go out my door!
