First time plowing

I did my first plowing today. There is a learning curve and it got easier as I went along. There was some roots to cut and a few of them tripped the shear mechanism thing. I found it snaps back in place.

The grand day out finished when I was going over a already plowed piece and the tractor bottomed out on a high spot and I got stuck.

What did you use to plow with?

I was pulling with a Ford 3910 (47hp) and the plow is a Massey Ferguson 42, two bottom moldboard. It bogged a bit in the wet ground at the gully.

How deep should it plow? Is the depth adjustable? Next weekend, I'll run a disc harrow over the plowed ground.

The depth should be adjustable.

How deep you wish to plow may depend on what your soil conditions are and what you wish to accomplish.

After the disking your back may be a little sore!

I did have a good day, thanks. I got sunburned, a stuck tractor and sore muscles but It was still good.

If your plow is a 12 in. you should plow at about 6 inches, a 14 in the depth should be at 7 inches and so on.

It's a 2X14 or maybe a 16". I'll need to check the manual tonight, I think it's a 16".
