It is fun, isn't it! Your BX is a very well made tractor, If I was ever going to get a smaller machine it would be my choice.

Yep, just tackled one of those big ones yesterday. After a couple hours digging I finally broke it loose. Then my loader would not pick it up. I dragged it down my gravel driveway to the dump location (aka power line easement), and then had to go back and grade the driveway where the stump trenched it. Next time I may just have my neighbor come over with the stump grinder.

DJ, have fun with the stump removal. It is really amazing how much better a piece of property looks with even those seamingly small stumps are removed.

Yep, I got it dirty this weekend. three hours saturday & three hours sunday working with stumps & downed trees, also moving some dirt around. After I finished my project for the day I went looking for more to do.....but the wife had other things in mind. She made me come in... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif. Shes from up your way. Sabago lake area.

Dmans, got no problem coming to Texas to help you out...might cost you a couple of Dallas Cowboys tickets /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

No it sure isn't.
I never ran a BH either.

I've got a big bunch of 4 to 6 inch trees to clear. See the grubbing thread.
When I first got my BX23 it took me 3 hours to dig out the first one.
Within 2 or 3 days I went from 1 tree in 3 hours to to 3 trees in 1 hour.

The farther out from the trunk the smaller the roots are so don't start digging right against the tree trunk.
Keep a close eye on where your stabilizers pads are because you can drag the tractor back into the hole you've dug.
Always make sure the loader is clear down and the parking brake is firmly set before putting the shift lever in neutral to start the motor.

Its going to take awhile to get the hang of, but its fun. Learning a little faster with the FEL, then the BH. I think you are right on the digging too close. I was doing that. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
I did read all the post in the grubbing section. Good reading!

I didn't have any trouble using the FEL but I think having the old 1966 Bolens with a front blade on it gave me an edge. In the 40 years I've had the Bolens with the blade I did a lot of grading and moved a lot of gravel slag and snow with it.

I've been digging stumps with my backhoe for years and I still always start too close in. No matter how many times I tell myself....
I always try to make the hole as small as possible, save time, even in places where it doesn't matter. And then dig bigger and bigger until I get out to where the roots will pop; takes twice as long as if I had started three or four feet out to begin with.
Head harder than hickory.
