after buying this loader in the spring (used) i finally had
a chance to test it out. during the construction of our
new dealership, there was large pile of rock that had been
sorted out for various uses, banks, landscaping etc.
i was able to help myself after the project was done,
so i loaded a few on my trailer with a 4000 series
tractor here at work, and took them home for
some future landscaping projects there. 1 piece
in particular was a bit large, and i never thought i'd get
it off the trailer without dragging it, but, boy was i
surprised! due to the trailer ramp etc, once i secured the
rock with the strap i was able to curl just a bit. then
backed off the trailer and to my surprise the loader was
a few inches off the ground! really made those HDAP squat
up front! i had not even put on the 3ph and ballast box.
here's a couple shots of the rock in the bucket. looks like
a granite type of rock, any guess on it's weight?

Granite weighs about 171 pounds per cubic foot so try and figure out how big the rock is.

That rock must be hollow in the middle for that little lawn mower to pick it up or that rock is not granite. Maybe its lava rock or some other lightweight stone. I would say its not more than 300-400 pounds and even that amount I wouldnt think that tractor would lift it without ballast on the rear.

Wow. Impressive. What air pressure are you running in the front tires? Doing that kind of work, you might want to bump it up 5-10psi.

It was a spur of the moment so I planned on dragging the rock off. The loader didn't pick the rock but it did hold it as I backed off the trailer with it. I could curl it though. Surely isn't hollow or lava rock but it may not be granite either. I had all I could to move it myself or flop it over. Will adjust tire pressure next time!

Dutch,
Not bad for the 45 loader gives you an idea how much this thing can do under more routine circumstances. That's a pretty big rock for a l&g to move.
