Tractor
JD 5300
Greetings all:

I am the proud new owner of a 1992 JD 5300, 4WD with the obligatory 540 loader with bucket and hay spear. It has 6000 hours, runs well and does not leak, the original paint is faded slightly, but virtually complete. Everything works but the tach, and I will find and check the sending unit tomorrow. I wanted a tractor that was large enough for me to feel comfortable with round bales of hay, and after having 2wd tractors and having the neighbors pull me out, I waited for the 4wd. I have cleaned out a parking space in the barn for it.

It was sad to watch my dead David Brown 990 be hauled off to the happy hunting ground, but it sure is nice to have a tractor that starts when I turn the key and doesn't require me to 'fiddle' with something to get it to start. I can't complain about a tractor and loader I bought for $3000 and used for 10 years, though, can I?

I'll be asking questions in the future and hope someone here is an expert on the 5300. I have an owner's manual on the way and am looking for a decent deal on the repair manual.

This is a long post of introduction. Thanks for reading it. Join me on this new adventure. I wish the tractor had a cup holder.... I wish green paint didn't make parts so expensive...

Welcome to the club I am shure many people have experiences with your tractor and others. If you have some pictures and or a quess on other peoples problems, speak up. We do have JD experts hiding in the bushes probably laughing at our quess of problems. They experts usually set us straight and on course. Welcome

There aren't many of these around for sale. I don't think I paid much of a premium for the green paint and I expect this to be my tractor for 20 years or more. Then my kids can sell it at the estate sale.

To my knowledge it has not been rebuilt. It has been cared for and looks like it was stored inside. It came down to this and a similar sized Kubota and the Deere was a more substantial tractor. Oh well...... I'm gonna go bush hog.
