Tractor
BX23
Spreading a 10 Wheeler of 3/4" stone. I now have a whopping 10 hours in the seat and I am beginning to get the feel for the tractor. I think the backhoe is a little weak. I tried pulling some rotted old small stumps and the backhoe definitely has limitations. Already thinking of upsizing. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Murph,

I had lots of problems with my BX-22 BH it first.. It was fun, but ended up pulling myself towards the stump mostly. That still happens, but a lot less - - just learn to take smaller bites. And when attacking roots, be sure you are at the right angle - -

I'm not at expert by any means, but I'm a lot better after 120 hours since I bought.

Have fun.

I felt the same way about my BX when I first purchase it. I was coming down from a full sized TBL and I had to rethink its abilities. I soon learned that what I used to do in a half hour, now took an hour and a half. Once you get used to it, it will work better for you. Just take your time and with some practice you will get the hang of it. With some practice you will really be enjoying yourself. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

That's a nice looking little TLB you have! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif What kind of dog is that? Looks like a nice one. That black spot on his side is kinda cool.

She's half Australian sheperd, half pointer, or so that is what they told me at the pound. She's a real good dog.

Nice looking machine.

I spent many hours spreading gravel with my 3010 and FEL. Last year I had a few truckloads delivered and was moving it around with the FEL. I happened to have the box blade attached, so I gave it a try.

Incredible - especially if you are spreading the pile around. Basically I lift the box blade, back up as far up the pile as I can go, drop it and drive in the general direction of spread, slowly lifting the 3PH as I go.

Much faster, because you don't have to drive in, lift the FEL, back out, turn around, etc.

As someone already indicated, "how" you use the 'hoe makes a difference. You can't depend upon brute-force with the BX22/BX-23 'hoe. It's a great tool, but you need to work it around a bit and actually dig things out, rather than rip them out like you often can with a big machine. You also have to learn to go a little slower as the hydraulics are not as strong as a larger machine.

If most of the work you need to do is much heavier duty and will be continuous into the future, maybe an upgrade is warranted. But if they are temporary, rent a bigger machine for those particular jobs and use the BX for normal maintenance and smaller projects. After all, it's a lot more maneuverable than big machines and can get into places you can't if you up-size much at all.

I think that what they meant was she is part Australian cattle dog, also called a Blue Heeler. Great dog breed.
