Finally ordered a new trailer

Thanks guys. No structure to put it under yet. I know the suns brutal on rubber. Any of you guys ever try RV style canvas wheel covers?

I thought about getting some for my camper that permanently parked at the mountains, I keep telling myself to just take the tires off but always run out of time when I'm there.

Just quickly checked Amazon, they have a pair for $22.00 that has great reviews available in different sizes, might be worth a shot.

Anyone have any feedback on adding power up/down for the tilt? Pros or cons?

Anyone have any feedback on adding power up/down for the tilt? Pros or cons?

I did this on my 7K manual tilt H&H trailer back in 2006. After a month or two of manually pumping to tilt the bed it got old real fast. Manual pumping took about 2-3 minutes to tilt the bed. After installing the 12V electric power unit tilt took about 10 seconds.
Need a tongue box to mount the pump in, 12V car battery, a 12V power up/down unit, hydraulic hose and one or two cylinders depending on whether you have one or two. Wire the battery to the trailer plug so it charges when plugged into the tow vehicle.
I bought the power unit thru Graingers, the hose and cylinder from Surplus Supply, battery from auto parts store.
Total materials cost was about $750-800. which is about half of what it would cost for the factory trailer power tilt option.
Prices may have gone up since 2006.

The BriMar trailer I had was electric over hydraulic tilt. The battery on the trailer is charged from the vehicle through the 7 pin connector.

It worked well. The caution would be that if it didn't, you are sort of stuck. I kept a spot where I piled up enough dirt to make a small ramp I could back the trailer up to if I ever got caught with no working hydraulics. Mine wasn't a deckover so it didn't need much of a ramp.

I should add, my trailer had no manual means of pumping.

I think I'll just stick with the manual tilt for now. I can always modify down the road if need be.

I ordered a new gooseneck trailer yesterday. The one I have is 10 years old, and has served me well, but I'm ready for a newer one with a few options that my old one doesn't have.

Here is a link to what I have ordered.

Top Hat Trailers - Online Catalog

I ordered a 28' with a 2' dovetail. Some of the other options are:
5' fold up ramps
Spring assist for ramps
Drive over fenders.
8'6" wide floor
Dual 10K jacks with locking tool box between the jacks.
14 ply rated tires and spare.

The dealer said it will be 4-5 weeks before it is delivered. I'll post pics when I get it.

sounds good. 8.5 ft wide means deck wraps around the fenders?

Yes it does. Makes it a little wider. trailer.jpg
