jk96. Consider notifying the state police. Maybe they will make inquires of the sheriff and get their attention. Arrest warrants can be issued within hours when they want.
If the Sheriff takes no action maybe this should be made known in the next election. I am sure his/her opponent would like the information.

I just want to add my agreement to the people who have recommended a DIY system with Blue Iris on this thread. It's actually very easy to do and you don't need that much network savvy. As others have said it gives you a lot of flexibility on the mix of cameras you use in your system, and it's easy to start small and add cameras.

Most IP cameras come with good instructions and tools that you can run to determine the information (local IP address, etc) that you need to plug into Blue Iris to get the camera hooked up. The only thing you have to do that might require some amount of savvy is to open a server port for Blue Iris on your router's firewall, and that's only if you want to access it remotely. Blue Iris also has a very nice app for iPhone and Android.

I'll also add that if you're going to be accessing things remotely, it's actually safer and easier to use Blue Iris than to directly access cameras, because the security of a lot of those cameras' software is questionable and you don't want to open up ports for them on your firewall... just have to open one for BlueIris.

And finally, if you have decent internet get a dropbox or google drive or some other cloud account and have BlueIris write its files to your cloud drive, and you'll automatically have off-site backup in case someone breaks in and steals the BlueIris computer.

Jk don't be a thorn yet.not sure about your state all have some different "rules" as an example here if the information was considered speedy usually to the end of the officers shift then an arrest will be made. As in your case it took time to compile the info the officers then need to put the evidence with the suspect, your video, the truck, maybe even the scrapyard information where it was sold all together then type out an arrest warrant which then goes to the prosecutors office for review then to a judge to be signed before the arrest is made. Believe it or not even if the warrant is complete in 24 hours it can take weeks before it is signed then served. The wheels of justice are in first gear. Don't blame the cops, sheriff or any LEO we have this problem because of Elected officials, they make the laws and mostly appoint Judges.

Also, who funds the sheriff department. If the deputies are spending all their time running around responding to calls, because that's all they have manpower to do, longer term work can take a back burner. My county is geographically huge with a relatively spread out population and not that many deputies... they might be driving 25 miles at a time to respond to successive calls, that can eat up a deputy's workday real fast.

DABSGT you are correct. After 4 different incidents I'm just a little impatient. I guess I was hoping they would go ahead and pick him up, especially if he has an outstanding warrant already. At least if they pulled him in on the current warrant it would keep him out of peoples backyards for a bit. I have found out the case has been forwarded to an investigator.

Which means they'd have to spot it pulling out of the business, or know that the items they can see in the bed could only have come from a particular business, or are responding to a call where the truck was described. Otherwise, the cops could pull anyone they want over whenever they felt like harassing someone.

...Nope, as aggravating as theft is, stuff isn't worth shooting someone over, lacking deadly threat during its commission, which makes the theft moot and self defense paramount.

I happen to disagree. There was a good reason why horse thieves were hung when caught, and nobody complained if they were shot (unless they got stuck burying them.) Stuff costs. And you pay those costs with a portion of your lives. Which means every theft is stealing some of your life away. Those folks who don't think shooting a thief is worth it, don't particularly value their lives, either because they truly have worthless lives, or are just ignorant of the connection. And one of the reasons why we have so much stealing is because there aren't strong consequences being applied to it. The thieves certainly aren't worried about paying for it in the afterlife.

Well, if they are loaded like most scrappers are, they could easily stop them for an unsecured load

Do you know what the other warrant was for? If he has a history of running after posting bond they may hold off until yours is complete. I would bet just from my experience he now has the unwanted attention of your sheriffs dept. I know that time, manpower, assignment priority will also delay the arrest property crimes often go on the back burner because of an increase in crimes against persons. tonight the bank my daughter works in was robbed!! 10 min before closing. My priority no one was hurt. On the bright side she starts a new job next week.
