Finally Hit Garage with ROPS

/ Finally Hit Garage with ROPS #41
Hello, and I thought I was the only one, after doing little damage to exterior I didn't want this to happen again so here's my solution, I hope it works, if I get the attachment to show up the sign was only 17.00 It hangs right in front of my face so I can't miss it.

It'll never work! There could be a red flag and flashing lights but we would still drive in...

here's a pic, not much damage at all, nothing to brag about anyways.
It is nice to hear other people "oops" stories too.
I should probably mention that I also slightly crunched the front grill on our Subaru a few years ago too.

Looks like you flattened the rare and aloof American Black eagle in the process as well

I have a 10x10 roll up door so no problem with the height on the tractor, but...

...I really have to watch the boom flail mower so I don't catch the side when I drive in.

I have owned my BX24 for a few years now and I knew someday that I would forget to put down the (ROP) roll over protection bar when I went back into the garage.
Today was the day I drove into the garage with the bar up and smashed the bar into the brickmold and siding. No big deal, I was going pretty slow and only gouged the molding a little. It was prettty cool when the front wheels lifted off the ground and I wondered what the %#*@ was going on.
Most guys have done it once. I'm proud to say that I've done it once with my Kubota and once with my Bobcat. The Bobcat crunched my gutters... $185.00.

It feels so good to know I am not the only idiot in the world. Yes, I would like to get one of those signs, maybe two, where did it come from?
I have hit mine atleast 5 times, about once every 6 months. I think sub-conciensly I want a new bigger building. So if I knock this one down, my wife will let me put a bigger one up. I think I need therapy.

Buy one of those long fiberglass antenas and mount it horizontaly on the ROP. If the antena hits the door it will tell you to lower the ROP.

I thought of attaching something like an antenna to the ROPS as an early warning, but determined that it would get fouled up in overhanging branches/shrubs on the property. I also thought of mounting something like an antenna with a bell on the end sticking straight out right above my garage door. Might try that.

I had one ugly encounter with the ROPS and my garage opening...ROPS got wedged under the threshold, and like a dummy, I instinctively backed up and tore off the trim and wrecked the siding above the opening. Should have let some air out of the tires. Then there was the time I tried to pull into the garage with bicycles on the car roof rack...now that was really ugly!

My all time best was when I was pulling my equipment trailer into my side yard to put it away for the winter. I was having trouble making it fit, and my wife wouldn't believe me when I told her that there wasn't enough room to get the trailer in where I wanted it. To prove my point to her, I pulled the trailer into the area (WAY, WAY too fast, being irritable and all). I cut the corner next to my shed a little close - I remember thinking, "Hmmm, I might nick the shed" - I heard a crash, could see a look of horror on my wife's face (who was standing in the yard), and stopped and got out. I looked back, and I could see everything in my shed. The trailer fender snagged the corner of the building and completely tore the entire front wall of the shed off, which was now laying on the ground. I probably should've had a temper tantrum, but instead almost pissed my pants laughing. We spend the rest of the day putting it back together.

Ya know, there is no reason to have manufactured the ROPS that high in the first place. Even if you're wearing your best Stetson, you still got plenty of room. All Kubota had to do was THINK that most garage doors are 7' (84") high, and drop the ROPS to 72" or 73". daaa. Makes for great conversations though. Mine squeeks in literally. So I just pull the pins BEFORE I go in, but I've had some close ones.....

Rather dumb fix...
That ROPS is there to (hopefully) save you from being crushed in a roll over (which can happen on fairly level ground).

Really??? Funny all the older tractor did not have issues...For me, Kubota needs it for dumb people that have issues. I have yet to roll anything...Robs is almost in line with a sticker on the bottom on a mower deck..

Yah. Ummm....it was a major cause of death with farmers... But go ahead and do that. And don't wear your seatbelt either as it could "constrain you" in a crash.... :confused2:

Just in case....Yeah this is all sarcasm. I'm glad yer so smart...but ... Get a clue... really.

This isn't a topic that is rationally debatable in the real world. Rollover is a big issue with tractors.

Yes really. And really, rollover is an issue with older tractors. Both my father and father in law died in accidents with older tractors. I'm not certain how one of them happened but the one I'm certain was caused by a 3" diameter tree that had been cut off about 2' high. Field grass grew up to conceal it and when the rear tire of the tractor hit it, the tractor was quickly rolled and the driver died. Both folks were very intelligent and mechanically inclined. One had a Phd in engineering and the other was a life long tool maker and assembly engineer. For both, this was there first (and last) significant accident. Neither were "dumb", but both had bad days...
P.S. I've damaged the trim on my garage door too..., but just once.

Kentucky is a mining state. More people are killed in Ky farming than in mines.

Hey now, I got that sign at a sight called buildasign.com, real easy to use and create what u want, and cheap enough just $17.00 for that aluminum sign, well I really needed to do something and this was my first approach at preventing this from happening again, hope this helps.

My 16' overhead door has prevented any issues for me. I have gotten stopped suddenly by the 4" round solid steel bollards that are 4' tall protecting the door edges though. Kinda makes me feel stupid but glad the bollards are there.

Gotta admit that I thought you were kidding. ROPS and seat belts are likely one single thing that has saved more lives on tractors than anything since the invention of motorized tractors.
