Feuding Deer

When the snow cover settles in about mid January the different groups of deer will battle it out for food. The alpha does will always go at each other while the others in each herd eat. Sometimes they get so low the ground it appears as though they are nearly crawling as they stalk the other doe, then they rear up using their hoofs.

These two groups came together today. One group was six and the other was only four.

Mike, despite the obvious winter weather, your deer look like they are pretty well fed. Here's a picture of a young buck that wandered up to my deer feeder a couple of weeks ago. The day before, I had a group of 15 does.
