I've been looking for a two bottom plow and came across a Ferguson 12-AO-28 plow. It's located at a local dealer and they want $450. Do you think it's worth it? I could sandblast/repaint it for around $100. Also would my 4310 have a problem pulling it? It will be used to plow about 3 acres once a year in a shale type soil. Thanks

I was thinking of offering around $250-300. By the picture it looks like it has been sitting for awhile.

That price seems a bit high to me as well. About 4 years back I purchased a Dearborn 10-152 plow (2-12") for $150. The plow is in good shape and had decent paint but no Coulters. Since that one seems complete and assuming in good condition except for rust and paint I would agree to offer $250~300.

I don't think you would have any problems pulling the plow with your JD. I think the usual measure is about 1hp per inch of plow. I am not familiar with you type of soil though.

I have also been looking for a 2 bottom plow. Prices around my area are going from 250 - 350.

Paid $495.00 for a Ford-Dearborn model 10-209, 3 16's with coulters, excellent shape. Going to pull it with a 55hp 5530wd Mahindra in the Palouse (glacial silt) for food plots, garden, etc.

450$? too much. 290$ would be better$ if in good condition..

Around here they go for $400 to $450 in good condition. Saw a half dozen of them go in that range at auction last year - I bit the bullet and bought one because I had been passing them up at auction for a couple years. In 2009 the same plows were going for less than $200. Now I have a 1 x 16" and a 2 x 14" and feel I made a major mistake because I can't find parts. The business I kept getting referred to asked $170 per share. The share on my 1 bottom is worn out so it is now a mailbox stand. My 2 bottom only has had a worn landside and I could cut out a replacement from a flat bar. The experience made me really leary of getting an old used plow.

trick is getting affordable wear parts.. or adapting wear parts from ones available.. like king kutter... BTDT.. and I hear ya ont he 170$ repop parts.. seen that too..

A friend of mine bought an AO Ferguson two bottom plow a year or two ago, It had cast iron parts, which he found out to his chagrin were made out of unobtanium, not available at any price.
