Fergie's in ICU

   / Fergie's in ICU #181
I've been using Stanadyne since 2006 -- it was recommended for my 2005 Jetta TDI Wagon (BEW/PD engine), so I began to use it with the LRB, adding a few ounces with each fill-up of my 5-gal diesel can. I now also use it in our 2015 MB Sprinter RV (3.0 V6).

My LRB is now at 1267 hrs...

I use Powerservice, it's what I got recommended by some long haul truckers for diesel.

<snip>
what additive are you using?

<snip>
The additive is some sort of Lucas stuff; sorry, don't care to run out to the shed in the rain to look. : )
Wrong! The additive is Hotshot's Secret Diesel Extreme. I had purchased a bunch of different additives/cleaners when I thought I had injector problems, and will use them all, one-at-a-time, from now on ...

The HS Extreme is more aimed at "cleaning" ... Like you were looking for prior, but I'm guessing your now running new injectors, I'd save that and run a tank or 2 after 250 hours ...

Should be after the 1st of the year or so, with the amount your using it ...

If you have a "anti-gel" in your collection ... I'd start using that stuff once you regularly get below 30° ...

Yes, of course the new engine came with new injectors. : )

And yes, I will start using anti-gel shortly.

What is the recommendation for "everyday" fuel additive?

Read up about Stanadyne -- I use it in all my diesels...

Yes, it has cetane boosters, lubricity additives, etc, but the real reason I like it is because for possible water contamination, it's designed to cause water to come OUT of suspension and get trapped in the water separator, rather than COMBINING with water and continuing through the fuel system as many additives will do.

At least that's what I remember about it. I was at a TDI Fest in Montreal in 2006 when I learned about it. It was "VW Approved."

On the Sprinter forum, there's a highly-respected Sprinter "guru" who also recommends it.

I switched over to Hot Shot secret EDT (everyday diesel treatment) a while ago, they also offer a EDT+anti gel. I've never used the EDT+winter defense.

I too use the HS Everyday, or winter defense ALL the time depending on what the weather is ...

I'm not saying one brand is better than another, but I switched my semi-truck over to HS WD for the winter, company pays for it, but not in the summer ... I use to use Howes ... The IMPORTANT thing to me is ...

Both the Howes and Hotshot does this also ...

Since we are forced to use ULTRA Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) now, the need to put both the lubricant and the centane in to boost it back up to the level that the Japanese use, and where our engines were designed/built ... And water SEPARATION, is crucial to long pump and injector life!

Yes, the one good thing is I can get 50cetane min off road diesel, so thats whats in my transfer tank.
My normal day to day diesel (I drive 600+ miles a week) is a nearby station that only has 40cetane min, so I'm pretty religious about an additive.
