These are the black locust posts I used. I bought them locally, but had to peel the bark from them before they could be pounded in. 88 posts, I had a good workout!

In my area the difference between round and square comes down to the treatment applied to the wood. The round ones can de sourced from our farm co op type place and have a high grade treatment. The square stuff is sourced from the lumber yard and doesn't share the same treatment quality.

Either way I'm a steel post with the L brackets guy myself. Especially if it's only a few hundred feet at my entry. I dislike fence work so much I don't ever want to do it twice....

No I use the pipe that they use for chain link fence. It comes in about 5 different wall thicknesses. We also have access to oil pipe if you want a different look.
The wood treatment is one of those items that hasn't gotten better with time and technology. At least with regards to what is available to the public!
