RK24
Hey all. Anyone found a way to change the joystick so down is down and up is up without losing float on RK24?

I think you need to explain what you are trying to accomplish. My FEL joystick has neither UP or DOWN function. FORWARD is down - BACK is up. If this is what you want to change - I'm sure it can be done. But WHY??

:) I just thought it was me. The FEL on my RK24 is the first I've owned and when I first started using it I thought the up/down joystick movement direction was counter intuitive and I always pressed the lever opposite of what I wanted. I'm also looking to change the joystick to the right armrest from the standard location so it's out of the way for seating entry and exit. I know I'm going to bend that skinny little lever one of these days. Hopefully I can find a lever with switch so I can use a single lever on the arm rest for the rear remotes also rather than up on the ROPS. If, during my search, I find a fix to change the up and down only I'll let you know.

For those without an RK24, here is a picture of where it is located near the dash above the HST pedal plus a diagram of the direction of movement while operating FEL when looking at the joystick from the operators seat. The orientation is different than other FEL or buckets I've used.

Your diagram of joystick operations is pretty standard. The joystick IS on the right side and out of the way. I think learning how to mount and sit down will be a whole lot easier and less expensive than an attempted joystick relocation.

How can joystick operation be counterintuitive if this is your first tractor. It will become natural with time and experience.

That is standard movement I've always found. I think the issue is because the handle isn't facing straight up

That is standard FEL control operation.

It is also common that the FEL control blocks entry and exit from the right side.

Entry and exit should be done from the left (port) side of the tractor only.

Some tractors have moved the FEL control to the right fender. In that configuration, the operator can enter and exit on both sides.

That's correct. The joystick is coming straight at you rather than coming up.
When you move the handle up the bucket moves down and when you push the lever down the bucket raises.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. Much appreciated.

Mine is directly opposite of what you have pictured. But I understand what you mean by it not being verticle.
Thanks

Just a thought but is it possible to just switch the hydraulic lines to get it to work the other way?

I tried that actually and it does work except you lose float

As the one guy mentioned though if the stick was vertical it actually would be proper as it were

The joystick lever is mounted correctly by ISO standards and we recommend that it not be modified in a way that would reverse things. Whether vertical or near horizontal, the lever is moved in the same directions for up or down movement regardless of who’s loader or tractor brand. Think of back towards you if vertical mount or down to the floor if horizontal as the same movement, which moves the loader arms and bucket up away from the ground. Push forward if vertical or horizontal and the loader arms will go down and move bucket down and forward. Back and down get same movement, forward and up get same movement.

Thanks to tractor guy. Another member said the same thing, and now that I can picture it vertical it makes sense to me. First real tractor, I'm learning.

Late response...
The controls are inverted, which is standard on most equipment.
Without seeing the colors of the hydraulic hook ups, you can merely switch raise and lower hoses on both ends of the DCV (handle), and have up as up, and down as down.
The float position would be useless however, as it would be working with the up function.

Szeiger already tried this, as I read above, but this will not harm the hydraulics, same flow, just change in direction.

If you rotate the hydraulic control block for the FEL forward (mine has slots cut in the mounting plate that allow some rotation) and bend the joystick up, it will make the controls more like a vertically mounted joy stick; aka other tractors. .

I thought of that too. But now that I understand how it lays out vertically I'm mastering it

This is not true. The float would work just the same. All the float position does is connect the "up" and "down" functions so that the fluid can free flow. It's (more or less) as if the two ends of the lift cylinders are connected to each other so the pistons can move in and out without resistance. This would work just the same weather the up/down hoses were correct or reversed, since it's basically just connecting them to each other. The float position on the valve doesn't "work with" up or down. It's an independent position that happens to be on the same axis as the up and down functions.
