I'm considering building a FEL/fork mounted chain harrow. I'm leveling #4 & #57 limestone for the driveway. The FEL would raise/ lower the harrow, also possibly add some down pressure weight. Another plus is the operator is looking forward! What problems do I need to consider during the design of the tool?

First, welcome to TBN, KevPH! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I assume you are referring to something that looks like this?

1. Making sure it doesn't fall off and get run over. Depending upon how the tines are pointed, this could cause some problems with the tires /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

2. I'm not sure how you'd be able to apply down pressure. BTW, my drag harrow does fine without down pressure.

3. If it's too long, or you change the angle of the bucket, the front tires could 'catch' the end of the harrow and nasty things would follow.

Why don't you want to use a drag harrow behind the tractor?

Thanks Mike for your imput! My FEL has a Quich-attach and 42" pallet forks. I need to raise the "chain harrow" (without spikes) and make tight turns. Fabing a slip attach to a set of fork is easy and fast! The loader will lift the chain harrow completely off the ground without a large support frame. Last storing a tool that can fold onto itself would provide a plus to limited shed space. I do agree, over running any tool will cause damage. Thank again Mike!

Do you have a boom pole? I use a drag made of two 5' pieces of I-beam, and use tho boom pole to do just as you said. I prefer to drag in the forward direction If you use the bucket and go forward, and the chain unhooks, you'll run over the thing you're dragging. Don't ask how I know............chim
