What an awful tragedy...and just awful way to go...in a Manure Pit...

I bet this was something that could have been avoided in hindsight...always 20/20 ...they just must have reacted to save one and lost 3...

This is not far from me, met with the Ag Ext guys last night and talked about it. Sad, but unfortunately not the first that I have heard of. The one on the research farm has a few life rings and I think a boat.

That pit looks dangerous ... its steep on all sides and I can only imagine how slippery it is on the side where that tractor is ... makes one think about safety.

Man its heart wrenching ... sad indeed.

I can't begin to imagine what those poor men went through....and what their family is going through now. My deepest condolences to the family and friends.

Manure lakes like that are tough...the methane isn't great but if you fall in the consistency is worse than quicksand.

I'm guessing one of the family fell in and the other 2 were attempting a save? Dear Lord that must have been horrific for them.

There was an incident some years ago where all the adult males in a family farm died trying to rescue other members in a manure holding tank.
They end up suffocating from lack of oxygen in the air.
There was also two who died when they entered a holding tank on a cruise ship locally some years ago.
