Fast growing Pines?

Even in N J Soil ( spelling SAND ) the Leyland Cypress lives up to its reputation as being a fast grower. I wanted privacy, and a wind block. The attachment shows I was successful. The line of trees went in about '95/'96. The one on the left, about 35 ft. went in as a 5 gal. 36 inches baby, for my wife in '93. They are quoted as growing 3 ft. per year, aftyer watching them I can believe it.

We had a Monterey Pine that really took off, after I pulled the hose out of the water softener dry well where my wife planted it. Whatever you choose, just remember to jump over it every day, and someday you will be an Olympic Gold Medalist. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Don't do like my brother, though and skip a summer, you'll never clear it again. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

You might want to look into Thuja Green Giant. It's similar to Leyland Cypress without the pest and disease problems. It grows 3-5 feet a year, isn't terribly picky about soil and can thrive in very wet or very dry conditions. Here's one link that I found, but there are lots of others.

Thursday's Plant -- Thuja Green Giant

I planted 20 of them a few weeks ago in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. If you're interested, I'll let you know how that progress.
