Farmall A battery question

When I was taking the 6-volt battery out of my Farmall A to replace it I noticed that the positive terminal was grounded to the fame and the negative went to the starter. Is this right, or does it matter? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Yes it does matter. If it was working correctly before, keep it a Positive ground system.

All Farmall 6 Volt tractors have a positive ground.

Most antique tractors that were 6v were positive ground. Mainly due to the edison effect and the spark plugs.

I was told that positive ground systems had "increased corrosion problems" and that this was one of the reasons for the switch to negative ground... make any sense?

I have always wondered why the move from positive ground to negative ground happened. Not wanting to hijack the thread and this is a non issue with CUT's, but since we are in the Vintage forum.....
